Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh (BVSc & AH, CVA)

Prathmesh Deshmukh

Dr. Prathmesh Deshmukh graduated from Bombay Veterinary College, in 2010. He completed his Certification in Veterinary Acupuncture from CHI Institute of Europe, Spain, in 2012.

Dr Deshmukh completed a brief stint at the Royal Western Indian Turf Club assisting an Equine Acupuncturist. He pursued his interest in Veterinary Neurology by doing externships at a Neurology clinic in Spain with a Diplomate from European College of Veterinary Neurology. He also did an externship in a Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation centre in Spain.

In 2013, Dr.Deshmukh was appointed to the Board of Directors of the World Association of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (WATCVM). The WATCVM is sponsored by the Chinese Veterinary Medical Association (ChVMA) and is represented by its Board Members across 25 countries

In 2014 Dr.Deshmukh continued his Neurology training in Bologna,Italy and became a member of the European Society of Veterinary Neurology. He attended the Veterinary Neuroscience & Advanced Clinical Neurology course followed by training in Veterinary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).He has also attended Continuing Education courses in Veterinary Neurology from Royal Veterinary College, UK.

In 2015, with Dr.Deepti Deshpande, co-founded “Antibiotic Vigilantes” which was started with an aim to create awareness about the global concern about Antibiotic resistance among Veterinary health professionals in India.In 2016, Dr.Deshmukh completed his training in Clinical Neurology from the University Of Sydney. In 2017, Dr.Deshmukh became a member of International Veterinary Academy Of Pain Management (IVAPM).

His areas of interest are Neurology, Neuro-Radiology, Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), PainManagement& Rehabilitation. He has conducted several lectures and workshops on Neurology, Acupuncture & Pain Management in Veterinary Universities in India, as well as Veterinary Practitioners’ associations. He was a speaker at the 2nd Indo-Global Summit & Expo on Veterinary, held in Hyderabad in 2015. He was the Keynote speaker at the India International Pet Trade Fair ( IIPTF ) in 2014. He also has students and veterinarians visit his practice to learn from him. One of his dream projects is to have an academy where students can nurture their areas of interests.

Dr. Deepti Deshpande ( BVSc & AH , MVS )

Deepti Deshpande

Dr Deepti Deshpande is a veterinarian at Acumed Veterinary Specialty. She also has a consulting practise in the name of ‘Don’t Skip a Beat’ which involves cardiac consultations, Echocardiography and critical anaesthesia.

Dr Deepti is a Masters in Veterinary Studies from Massey University, New Zealand, 2014. She completed her Bachelors in Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandary, Bombay Veterinary College, MAFSU, 2010

In July, 2016, Dr Deepti attended the European School of Advanced Veterinary studies course in Cardiology at Estoril Portugal. Dr Deepti did her masters in veterinary studies with a focus in cardio-respiratory medicine. In 2014 she presented her master’s thesis in American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Forum (ACVIM),Tennessee, USA.

Dr Deepti always had a keen interest in Veterinary Internal medicine and Cardiology and has completed two externships at North Carolina State University, USA in Cardiology, Internal Medicine and Emergency and Critical Care – in 2011 and 2014. She also did an externship at a private clinic – Belle Mead Animal Hospital, New Jersey, 2014.

While at Massey University, Dr Deepti worked after hours at the Massey University Small Animal Emergency centre for 2 years. She also did an externship with the anaesthesia services at Massey University veterinary teaching hospital. In 2015, Dr Deepti did a distance learning course in Anaesthetic Complications from University of Sydney. She has also completed a RACE accredited course in Veterinary Pain management by VIN.

Dr Deepti has several awards and has published in Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine – The Effect of the Canine ABCB1-1Δ Mutation on Sedation after Intravenous Administration of Acepromazine. This paper gives an important insight on the effects of sedatives in breeds of dogs, such as rough coated collies, which carry the ABCB1-1Δ Mutation and are sensitive to drugs such as Ivermectin. In 2013, Dr Deepti won the Bayer Innovation Award & Massey University Masterate Scholarship.

Dr Deepti and Dr Prathmesh started Antibiotic Vigilantes for a social cause to create awareness about antibiotic resistance and judicious use of antibiotics amongst veterinarians.

Dr Deepti is a nature enthusiast and enjoys travelling, wildlife camping, photography. Dr Deepti is an avid reader and enjoys the company of books.

Dr Barry Kalsy (BVSc & AH)(Soft Tissue, Laparoscopy and Orthopedic Surgeon)

Dr. Barry Kalsy is a consulting Surgeon at Acumed Veterinary Specialty. He graduated from Bombay Veterinary College in 1998. He started his career as a house surgeon for Dr. Chousalkar in 1999 and has been associated with Top Dog Pets Clinic ever since.

Dr. Barry started off as a soft tissue surgeon. In 2005, he trained himself in Laparoscopy surgery from TANUVAS, Chennai. He completed his further training in Laparoscopy form Bombay Veterinary College in 2014. Since 2009, Dr Barry has been a consultant to several clinics across Mumbai for performing Laparoscopic surgeries on pets. He has been invited by Bombay Veterinary College to teach Laparoscopic surgeries and has mentored over 6 veterinary surgeons in his private practice.

Dr. Barry has been a polymath. Pursuing his interest in Orthopedics he attended numerous training courses across the globe. He visited the Iowa State University, USA in 2012 for External Fixation Courses. In 2012, he attended the Fracture management course from AOVET, an International group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. He did an externship at the Colorado State University, USA with his mentor Dr. Howard Siem. He visited the OQUENDO Center in Las Vegas, USA for a course in Surgical Management of Stifle diseases in 2014. He followed it up with hands on training in “Advanced Veterinary Orthopedics” conducted by the Veterinary Orthopedic Foundation Germany.

Dr. Barry has also attended numerous Continuing Education courses in Radiology, Anesthesiology and Ophthalmology. He is known for his expertise in Laproscopy, Soft Tissue surgery as well as Orthopedic surgeries. Acumed Veterinary Specialty feels privileged to have Dr Barry as our Consulting Surgeon!
